A common trait, which can be observed, amongst all industries is how consumer attitudes drive consumer behavior. In certain industries like fashion and music, attitudes can be viewed as indicators of where the buying power is shifting to next. When the mindsets of the masses change, industries tend to adjust accordingly. For example, the recent surge in sustainability interest. Growing concerns over climate change and environmental friendliness have led to an increase in thrifting and a high demand for eco-friendly products. Similarly, attitudes towards authenticity have also been changing, which causes a shift in the entertainment industry. Audiences resonate more with musicians, actors, and influencers who tend to show off more of their raw, unedited lives. Consumers tend to resonate with real and relatable content over polished and scripted campaigns.

For the average consumer and buyer, these shifts in the industries remind them that their voices make a difference. Their shift in mentality can affect entire markets, causing them to change and adapt. For brands and marketers, these shifts serve as reminders that grasping audience attention in order to make sales is more about the visual and creative and is about the moral and ethics. These attitude shifts can serve as signals for future trends to come and offer opportunities for innovation before they begin. In short, behaviors follow beliefs. No matter what industry you’re in, understanding the changes in attitudes is key to understanding the futures of the market.
